What we offer

The Colorado State Library offers a few different levels of service and assistance, all for free! To help you decide if COLibraries is right for you, have a look at the different levels of service below and check out the COLibraries community!

Levels of Service

Decisions for which level your library needs will be based on the tech skills at your library, website needs, and resources available (e.g. technical expertise, funds, hardware, connectivity, etc.) and made by the library and State Library staff together. Please take a look at the differences and think about what is right for you.

Level 1

Fully supported web service for libraries with limited staff and financial resources.
The State library will provide assistance with maintenance & design to assure viable, useful web presence.

Library responsibilities:

  • Provide graphics, URL and data to set-up and configure the Library’s website.
  • Designate one or more staff members to learn the editing features and participate in any COLibraries training activities that may be made available.
  • Commit a minimum of 1/2 hour per week for website updates and maintenance.
  • Provide a contact person for phone or email questions generated from the website.
  • Use the website as the Library’s homepage and as a portal for information of interest to the community.
  • Promote the Library’s collection, programs, and services through the library website.

Colorado State Library will provide:

  • Full assistance on website, including adding/changing content when requested.
  • Choice of 5-6 predetermined basic themes that are responsive and mobile ready.
  • Up-to-date and secure infrastructure.
  • A free subdomain web address under colibraries.org (e.g. http://libraryname.colibraries.org)
  • Hosting of the website as part of a Word Press multisite implementation.
  • Website customization that includes the selection of website colors, Library branding logos, and the ability to opt in/out to widgets (described below).
  • The template for the Library will include
    • A calendar with recurring events
    • Links to online catalog or embedded catalog search where possible
    • RSS feed box capability
    • Repopulated popular links
    • Optional staff area
    • Ability to embed photos and video
  • Training and documentation focused on content management
  • Information and training on website best practices.

Level 2

Semi-supported web service for libraries who want to explore managing their own site
The State Library will provide support, training, and hosting for libraries that can handle some management responsibilities on their own.

Library responsibilities:

  • Provide graphics, URL and data to set-up and configure the Library’s website.
  • Designate one or more staff members to learn the editing features and participate in any COLibraries training activities that may be made available.
  • Commit a minimum of 1/2 hour per week for website updates and maintenance.
  • Provide a contact person for phone or email questions generated from the website.
  • Use the website as the Library’s homepage and as a portal for information of interest to the community.
  • Promote the Library’s collection, programs, and services through the library website.
  • Graphic design and/or graphic design instruction for staff.

Colorado State Library will provide:

  • Up-to-date and secure WordPress infrastructure.
  • Hosting by the State Library, re-evaluated every 2 years.
  • A subdomain web address under colibraries.org (e.g. http://libraryname.colibraries.org) will be provided for free.
    • The State Library can assist in one-time mapping of the site to a custom domain URL (e.g., www.libraryname.org) to be registered and maintained by the Library.
  • Help exporting the library website and hosting set-up on own hosting as appropriate if the library moves away from State Library hosting.
  • An initial training one-time session in person or online to train library staff how to set up your site and do basic customization of site features and functionality.
    • One-time training will include information on how to add content, manage software, maintain and update software themes and widgets, as well as information on website best practices.
